Hard Maple

Our geographical location and our kiln drying creates the whitest hard maple available. The majority of our logs are harvested within a 100 mile radius of our mill to ensure a consistent product. This lumber is very tight grained and is basically mineral free. We hit and miss surface all our maple and grade from the poor face to ensure your product is sticker shadow free and on grade. If a board permits, we will pull birdseye. Hard Maple is 56% of our annual production.
SortsColor – Our 4/4 S/B grade is sorted #1 & #2 White (runs approximately 90% #1 White), Sap1F, and Brown. Our 1C product is put up #1 & #2 White, and we pull Sap1F for 4/4 only, and our 2A is #1 & #2 White.

Rustic Hard Maple4/4

Rustic hard maple is a "calico" lumber that looks like "waves" of brown mixed on a white palette. The brown color can vary from a light blond color to a deep chocolate, sometimes in the same board. Adding to the color contrast are interesting character marks such as sound knots, mineral streaks, bark pockets, birdseye and sound pith. Each piece of rustic hard maple is chosen, not to meet a certain grade, but because it "looks neat". Applications for this dense rustic wood could include plank flooring at a ski lodge to character furniture and cabinet wood.

Average yield is 70% to 100%.

Red Leaf Soft Maple

And you thought our hard maple was bright! Our Red Leaf Soft Maple is brighter than our white hard maple. Once again, we produce tight grained lumber that's basically mineral free. Our red leaf soft maple is hit and miss surfaced and graded from the poor face to assure your product is sticker shadow free and on grade. If a board permits, we will pull curl. Red leaf soft maple is 20% of our annual production.

SortsColor – Our red leaf is sorted Sap1F/Btr., and Brown. Our S/B runs at least 90% #1 & #2 White.

Rustic Red Leaf Maple4/4

Rustic red leaf maple has an "ebony and ivory" look with splashes of grey and black rolled on a white background. Within the lumber are character marks such as mineral streaks, solid knots, sound pith, bark pockets and the occasional curly figure. The grey, black and white contrasts, combined with the character marks, give this lumber the "barn board" look.

Average yield is 70% to 100%.

Yellow Birch

Our yellow birch is manufactured to a 4/4 thickness and is fleck free. We put it up unselect for color, but the sapwood is very bright. We grade after kiln drying and put this product up rough, but it can be surfaced upon our customers request. Yellow Birch is 13% of our annual production.

SortsAs stated, we do not color sort our yellow birch, but our S/B runs approximately 80% Sap/Btr., our 1C runs approximately 70% Sap/Btr., and our 2A runs approximately 60% Sap/Btr.

Rustic Red Birch 4/4

Rustic red birch color compares well to cherry or alder, except when finished, red birch has a 3-D "flame" look that gives the wood depth. The wood seems to "move" as it is viewed from different angles. The rustic red birch contains sound knots and sound pith along with at least 90% "red" color on one face to give each piece interesting character. Average yield is 70% to 100%.

Red Oak

Once again, our geographical location gives us a beautiful, tight grained, consistent "honey wheat" colored red oak that is virtually free from mineral and the sap content is almost non-existent. Red oak is 6% of our annual production.

SortsOur red oak is unselect for color but runs an extremely consistent "honey wheat" color.
We hit and miss surface our red oak to ensure the color and grade.
